OPTOmap®-  Optomap ultra-widefield retinal imaging provides a digital, three dimensional, high resolution eye wellness scan. Our ability to view your internal retinal health is dramatically improved with Optomap because it shows 700% more of the retina than a standard 45 degree retinal photo. Optomap does not replace a dilated retinal exam, but in many cases it can. Some patients may still require dilation due to medical concerns or detected issues.

OptoMap Retinal Imaging

Conditions such as macular degeneration, tumors, glaucoma, retinal holes, retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and systemic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure (all of which can lead to loss of vision/blindness) can be detected by Optomap. 

Most insurance plans currently don't cover Optomap imaging unless a medical issue is detected.

We recommend an optional Optomap imaging as part of our routine vision screening, but a fee of $39 would apply.

 

We waive this fee for all of our patients 10 years of age and younger.  This is due to the complexity when looking for abnormalities with an ophthalmoscope on our younger patients.  We also support free screening, because Optomap was developed by a father, Douglas Anderson, after his five-year-old son went blind in one eye when a retinal detachment was detected too late.

If untreated, these tears could become worse and cause a retinal detachment, and may result in permanent vision loss or blindness.

Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)- Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is useful in diagnosing many eye conditions, including:  Macular hole, Macular pucker, Macular edema, Age-related macular degeneration, Glaucoma, Central serous retinopathy, Diabetic retinopathy and Preretinal membranes.  

 

OCT is also used frequently to evaluate disorders of the optic nerve. The optic nerve is made up of many nerve fibers and sends signals from your retina to your brain, where these signals are interpreted as the images you see. The OCT exam is helpful in determining changes to the fibers of the optic nerve, such as those caused by glaucoma. Since OCT relies on light waves, it cannot be used successfully with any condition that interferes with light passing through the eye, such as dense cataracts or significant bleeding in the vitreous (the gel in the center of the eye). 

Visiual Fields Analysis-  Visual Fields Analysis measures a patient's central and peripheral vision, or “side vision,” and is used by our doctord to diagnose, determine the severity of, and monitor glaucoma. The most common visual field test uses a light spot that is repeatedly presented in different areas of your peripheral vision.

Topography-  Topography are specialized computerized tests used to create a "map" of the curvature of the cornea or surface of the retina. The corneal test can show distortions of the surface of the eye, such as swelling or scarring, as well as conditions such as astigmatism.

Optical Topography

BlephEX®-  Blepharitis is one of the most common eye conditions seen by eye doctors and also one of the most undertreated due to the inefficacy of previous treatment options. Blepharitis could very well be to blame if you suffer from dry, itchy eyes or the frequent sensation that there’s a foreign body in your eye. Left untreated, Blepharitis can lead to Dry Eye Disease, contact lens intolerance, and tear gland damage. Luckily, there’s a new technique for removing biofilm from the eyelid margin. Called microblepharoexfoliation (MBE), it is a 5-10 minute in-office procedure performed by our doctors using a handheld instrument called BlephEx. The device gently debrides and exfoliates the lid margins and unclogs glands. 

MiBowFlo for Dry Eyes

MiBoFlo ThermoFlo®-  Also known as MiBoFlo, is a therapeutic device providing an alternative therapy for dry eyes. It uses a proprietary thermoelectric heat pump to help maximize liquefaction of meibum, thus improving the preservation and function of the evaporative component of the tear film. This therapy is aimed at improving function of the meibomian component of the tear film. The thermo control operates within a plus or minus 3% variance to maintain an effective treatment temperature of 108 degrees. The MiBoFlo has an adjustable timer allowing for the versatility to treat various levels of dry eye.

ProKera®-  ProKera is a therapeutic device used by eye doctors around the world to protect, repair and heal damaged eye surfaces. ProKera is made by clipping a piece of amniotic membrane tissue in between two rings made out of a clear, flexible material.  ProKera has natural therapeutic actions that help damaged eye surfaces heal. Eyes treated with ProKera have quicker healing, less pain, less scarring, and less inflammation. ProKera is used by our doctors to treat eye diseases such as keratitis, corneal scars, chemical burns, corneal defects, and many other ocular surface diseases with inflammation.
